Biography

Dragan Vasilev Manchov (1834-1908) was a Bulgarian Revival-era educator, publisher and public figure from Batak. He taught in Radilovo, Batak, Pazardzhik, Perushtitsa and Plovdiv, and from 1862 dedicated himself to publishing. Together with Hristo G. Danov he was among the largest Bulgarian publishers and book distributors of the Revival period; his bookshop had branches in Thessaloniki and Svishtov. Over five decades he published hundreds of books, schoolbooks, church singing collections, geographical atlases and the first Bulgarian encyclopedia, Entsiklopedichen rechnik. His brief mayoral term in 1899 belongs to his broader public role in Plovdiv.

Officially listed mayoral term in Plovdiv Municipality's mayor archive: 7 April – 24 May 1901.
