Biography

Hariton Kuev (1879-1940) was a Bulgarian pharmacist, public figure, member of parliament and mayor of Plovdiv. Born in Byala Cherkva, he was the son of Dimitar Kuev, a participant in the April Uprising in Pop Hariton's detachment. He studied pharmacy in Prague and co-founded Galenus (1897), the first pharmaceutical society in Bulgaria. He settled in Plovdiv in 1904, built the Maritsa pharmacy and is described as the city's first car owner. He was a deputy in the Fifth Grand National Assembly in 1911, and from 11 November to 30 December 1919 he served as mayor of Plovdiv. He supported poor Plovdiv residents and donated funds for recovery after the 1928 earthquake.
