Biography

Slavcho Stoev Atanasov (born 14 February 1968 in Karlovo) is a Bulgarian politician, lawyer, attorney and reserve officer. He graduated from the Higher Military Artillery School in Shumen as a senior lieutenant, studied law at Plovdiv University and completed his legal education at Veliko Tarnovo University. Before his mayoral term he was mayor of Trakiya District (2003-2007), and in 2007 he won the Plovdiv mayoral election in the first round with roughly 53% support. After leaving office in 2011 he again ran in local elections and served as an MP in the 43rd and 44th National Assemblies for patriotic formations; in 2011 he also received the Knight of the Book award for policies encouraging reading.
