Nikola Galabov
Nikola Hristov Galabov (1882-1923) was a Bulgarian lawyer, public figure and activist of the Narrow Socialists. Born in the Plovdiv-area village of Novosel, today Galabovo, he graduated in law from Sofia University and settled in Plovdiv in 1914. Between 30 December 1919 and 16 March 1920 he was mayor of the Plovdiv Commune. Later he took part in preparations for the September Uprising of 1923, was arrested on 12 September, tortured and killed without sentence on 27 September in the Kemera area near Plovdiv. The record is important for the brief socialist governing episode in the interwar city.
