Quarter walks · half a day
Karshiyaka: the opposite shore
the bridge, the fair hotels and the north city's parish
The north bank's quarter walk: over the covered Fairground Bridge to the concrete silhouettes of the Maritsa and Novotel hotels, the prefab giant Sankt Peterburg, the interwar parish church of St Ivan of Rila, and a finish at the fair that has pulled the city northward since 1892.
The line and walking times are computed from OpenStreetMap and are approximate — terrain and street closures can change them.
When to go
Afternoon — the light hits the north bank from the river side.
Getting to the start
The Fairground Bridge starts at Kapana's northern end; it is a 10-minute walk from Dzhumaya.
After the finish
Return from the fair by bus along Tsar Boris III Obedinitel boulevard or back over the bridge on foot. Combine with the "Modern Plovdiv of the 20th century" route.

Worth a detour
Good to know
- Food Eating spots line the bridge and the hotel block; they thin out toward the church.
- Shade The boulevards are wide and exposed — bring a hat in summer.
Between the hotels and the church you cross residential streets — this is a living quarter, not a museum.
The fairgrounds open only during shows; otherwise view them from outside.
