Quarter walks · half a day

Karshiyaka: the opposite shore

the bridge, the fair hotels and the north city's parish

The north bank's quarter walk: over the covered Fairground Bridge to the concrete silhouettes of the Maritsa and Novotel hotels, the prefab giant Sankt Peterburg, the interwar parish church of St Ivan of Rila, and a finish at the fair that has pulled the city northward since 1892.

Worth a detour

Good to know

  • Food Eating spots line the bridge and the hotel block; they thin out toward the church.
  • Shade The boulevards are wide and exposed — bring a hat in summer.

Between the hotels and the church you cross residential streets — this is a living quarter, not a museum.

The fairgrounds open only during shows; otherwise view them from outside.
