Biography

Dr Ivan Tsokov Kesyakov (1871-1965) was a physician, public figure and mayor of Plovdiv in two periods. Born in Koprivshtitsa, he graduated in medicine from Jagiellonian University in 1896, specializing in anatomical pathology. He worked at Plovdiv District Hospital, was active in the Plovdiv society of the Macedonian-Adrianopolitan organization and served as district and regional doctor in Plovdiv. He was mayor in 1908-1912 and again in 1921-1922. He served as a military doctor during the wars, headed the Directorate of Public Health, was associated with the Public Health Act and held leadership posts in the Bulgarian Red Cross.
