Angel Semerdzhiev

Angel P. Semerdzhiev (1867-1907) was a Bulgarian public figure from Batak. After the April Uprising he moved to Plovdiv, where he graduated from the Sts Cyril and Methodius high school. In 1883 he and Ivan Naydenov founded the Napredak printing house, linked with Zahari Stoyanov's Borba newspaper, and later became its sole owner. He edited Yuzhna Bulgaria and published the newspaper Plovdiv from 1886 to 1907. From 1 April to 1 June 1893 he served as mayor of Plovdiv as chair of a three-member commission until the municipal elections were completed; he was also a member of parliament.
