Spas Garnevski

Spas Georgiev Garnevski (born 18 January 1953 in Plovdiv) is a Bulgarian politician, public figure and economist who was mayor of Plovdiv from 1995 to 1999. He graduated from the University of National and World Economy in labour economics and organisation, worked at Plovdiv's state printing house and at the Hristo G. Danov publishing house, and in 1992-1995 was executive director of the printing house. After his mayoral term he remained active in local and national politics: he was expelled from the Union of Democratic Forces in 2003, led DSB's Plovdiv organisation, served as a municipal councillor, and in 2017 was elected an MP from Plovdiv-city on the GERB list. He also published the poetry collections The End of the Night and The Grandchildren of Bay Ganyo.
