Valko Shopov
Valko Shopov (1856-1918) was a Bulgarian public figure from Merichleri. He graduated from the American school in Plovdiv, studied chemistry and natural sciences in London, and taught at the Sts Cyril and Methodius school and the Girls' High School in Plovdiv. He was among the founders of the Svila silk society, represented Bulgaria officially at the 1893 Chicago exposition, served as mayor of Plovdiv in 1906-1908, and twice governed the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
