The railway reaches Plovdiv

The station opened in the 1870s on the line linking Sofia with Istanbul. Plovdiv thus became a key stop on the railway corridor between Europe and the Orient.

An Art Nouveau building

The present Art Nouveau building, designed by the Italian architect Prof. Mariano Pernigoni, was completed in 1908. The station has 11 tracks and remains the city's main railway junction.
