Shihabuddin Pasha
The mosque was built in 1444–1445 by the Rumelian Beylerbey Shihabuddin Pasha, son of Lala Shahin Pasha, the conqueror of Thrace. Beside the mosque and the tomb he also raised an inn, an imaret (kitchen for the poor), a hammam and schools (a mekteb and a madrasa).

The building is a fine example of the Bursa school of early Ottoman architecture, with its characteristic masonry of alternating brick and stone. The Imaret Mosque and its founder's tomb survive to this day beside the Maritsa river.
