Quarter walks · half a day
Marasha: between two bridges
the imaret, the synagogue and the old west's riverbank
A quarter walk through Marasha — the onetime belt of gardens and estates west of the centre: from the Imaret Mosque's zigzag brickwork via the Gerdzhika bridge and the synagogue's hidden courtyard to the Dondukova garden and the Maritsa's Green Bridge.
The line and walking times are computed from OpenStreetMap and are approximate — terrain and street closures can change them.
When to go
Morning — the courtyards and the garden are quietest before noon.
Getting to the start
The Imaret Mosque stands by the riverbank near the Old Bridge, 10 minutes north-west of Unification square.
After the finish
From the Green Bridge follow the riverside alley west toward the Rowing Canal, or return through Marasha in 15 minutes. Combine with the "Rowing Canal and the Maritsa riverside" route.

Good to know
- Take care The synagogue is visited by prior arrangement; view the courtyard quietly.
- Food Cafés cluster around the Dondukova garden; the rest is residential.
Marasha is a residential quarter of small streets — photograph the buildings, not the courtyards or the people.
