Biography
Diran Hovsep Parikyan (1921-2009) was a Bulgarian public figure and politician of Armenian origin, born in Plovdiv. He joined RMS in 1940 and the Bulgarian Communist Party in 1945; he worked in Komsomol and party structures, graduated from the Higher Party School, led a youth brigade at the Karaganda metallurgical plant construction, and for nine years directed the State Construction Association in Plovdiv. He was mayor of Plovdiv in 1971-1979; afterwards he became a consultant at the Council of Ministers and chair of the Yerevan cultural and educational organization of Armenians in Bulgaria.
