Biography

Todor Petkov is an engineer and long-serving public figure born in 1950 in Plovdiv. He studied industrial and civil construction in Sofia, worked at Plovdiv's construction and assembly combine, and before becoming mayor was deputy chair and chair of the Trakia district council as well as deputy mayor of the municipality. The official decision awarding him Honorary Citizen status and BTA's report from the December 2025 ceremony highlight four decades of public service, infrastructure projects, and his service as mayor in 1988-1990, regional governor in 2005-2009, and municipal councillor. When receiving the distinction, Petkov linked his work to the "cause of Plovdiv" and urged the city not to become overbuilt.

Officially listed mayoral term in Plovdiv Municipality's mayor archive: 9 March 1988 – 23 October 1990.
