Biography
Nikolay Somlev (1946-2014) was a Bulgarian public figure born in Plovdiv. He studied mineral processing and water purification at the University of Mining and Geology in Sofia, later studied industrial economics, and worked at the Elisseyna metallurgical plant and as chief engineer of water-treatment stations. He was the first right-wing mayor of Plovdiv at the start of the post-1989 transition: appointed by the Union of Democratic Forces as chair of the executive committee in 1990, he served until the 1991 elections; in 2001-2004 he headed ViK Plovdiv.
