Owners and name
The story begins in the early 19th century with the wealthy merchant and moneylender Hadji Panayot Lampsha, a member of the tailors' guild. The home was later sold first to Hristo, a nephew of the enlightener Nayden Gerov, and finally to the timber merchant Luka Balabanov, whose name it bears today.

The decaying building was demolished in 1935, but reconstructed in 1976–1979 from the records of the architect Hristo Peev — the foremost researcher of the Revival house. It is a representative example of the symmetric Plovdiv homes built on the model of the shores of the Bosphorus.
