Hill of nymphs and gods
This is the highest of Plovdiv's hills — about 300 m above sea level. In antiquity it was called the hill of the Dryad nymphs; on its summit rose a colossal statue of Apollo and a Roman temple of Apollo Cendrisseos, converted in the 4th century into an early-Christian basilica.

Its Ottoman names shifted from Dzhin Tepe (hill of the spirits) through Dzhendem Tepe (“hell”) to Chigdem Tepe (crocus hill). The modern name Youth Hill (Mladezhki Halm) comes from the communist period, when young labourers paved the road up its slope.

Its lower slopes hold one of Plovdiv's finest parks, with a drinking fountain and a children's train, and the hill is a designated natural landmark. A large radio and television antenna complex stands on the summit, and its terraces command broad views.
