An institution since 1951

The museum was established in 1951 to study, preserve and display the cultural heritage of Plovdiv and its region from the 15th to the 20th century. Today it works from several separate historic buildings in the city centre.

Four expositions

“Bulgarian Revival” occupies the Georgiadi House (1846, 825 m²); “Unification of Bulgaria” the former Regional Assembly of Eastern Rumelia (architect Pietro Montani, 1883–1885); “Book Publishing” the house of the publisher Hristo G. Danov; and the Modern History Centre shows art and photography.
