The Kuyumdzhioglu House
The building was raised in 1847 for the homespun-cloth merchant Argir Kuyumdzhioglu by the master builder Hadzhi Georgi from the Rhodope village of Kosovo. It is an emblem of Plovdiv Baroque-Revival building — 570 m², a symmetric facade (two storeys from the west, four from the east), twelve rooms with carved ceilings and floral decoration, and an inner courtyard with a garden.

The regional museum was founded in 1917 by Stoyu Shishkov. After the collection passed through the National Library, the museum was revived and opened in the Kuyumdzhioglu House on 14 October 1943; in 1949 it became the People's Ethnographic Museum.

The holdings exceed 40,000 exhibits arranged in six sections: agriculture, crafts, textiles and clothing, furniture and interiors, musical instruments, and religious art. The museum also keeps a scholarly archive, a library and a photo archive, and its garden is one of the Old Town's favourite corners.
